Introducing AC Reads 2024: Fenway and Hattie

book

Join our school community as we connect with each other for a shared reading experience. Our goal is that all students, no matter the grade, will be listening to and reading the same book.  Reading professionals recommend that younger students listen to books beyond their reading level and even our older students can benefit from chapter books being read aloud to them.  We have selected a title that can be enjoyed by younger students but will also captivate and encourage conversation with older students.

Every family will receive a copy of the same book- Fenway and Hattie by acclaimed author Victoria Coe. It is a delightful read about an excitable and endlessly energetic Jack Russell terrier named Fenway.  Join us as we follow along on adventures of the Wicked Floor and Evil Squirrels as told by Fenway, himself.

Along with the book, your family is receiving a reading calendar highlighting the chapters to be read each night and several activities your family can choose to do throughout the month. The chapters are short and can easily be read each day.

Here at school, students will have the opportunity to answer daily, age-appropriate trivia questions about the reading, as well as participate in a variety of activities in their classrooms!  Audio of chapters, read by staff, will also be shared on the school district website each day. Visit https://www.acschools.org/page/ac-reads chapter read alouds and more info about this year’s book!

New this year, your family can celebrate the end of AC Reads with a Family Movie Night on January 26th at 7pm in the High School Auditorium.   We will be showing The Secret Life of Pets. Please see attached flyer for more information.

Our goal is for everyone to be talking about Fenway and Hattie!  However, this activity is optional so if your family should choose not to participate feel free to return the book to your child’s teacher or gift it to someone else. Share pictures of your family reading and participating in Fenway and Hattie activities on social media using: #acreads.
